Meet the West Covina PD K9 Team
The West Covina Police Department currently has three K9 Teams in service. Two of the three K9s were purchased and trained exclusively through community-donated funding.
The goal of the Friends of WCPD K9's is to assist the WCPD with all future K9 purchases as well as equipment and training needs.

Officer Bryan Rodriguez and K9 "Reiko"
Officer Rodriguez and Reiko, also known as 6-King-1, have worked together as a team since December, 2013. Reiko is a 2 1/2 year old Belgian Malinois and had originally been trained to work with an elite military special operations group. However, Reiko was not fond of jumping out of an aircraft. This issue was West Covina PD's gain, in that he turned out to be an exceptional police service K9.
Reiko had several felony apprehensions in during his first year of service. In November, 2014, Reiko was shot while apprehending a murder suspect causing a very serious wound. He was immediately treated by some very fine animal doctors and made a remarkable comeback. In January, 2015, Reiko was awarded the Medal of Valor for Courage under fire. His actions save police officers from being shot.
Reiko returned to full duty in February, 2015 without any issues resulting from the injury.
Reiko is the first police dog purchased and trained exclusively through community-donated funding.

Officer Matt Bowman and K9 "Rec"
Officer Bowman and his partner Rec, also known as 6-King-2, have been working as a team since November, 2014. Rec is a 4 year old Belgian Malinois and was selected because if his intellegence, high drive and aptitude.
In the short time since Rec has worked the field, he already has several felony apprehensions to his credit.
Rec was also the K9 that visited with the children that were being treated during the Christmas Holiday season at Pomona Valley Hospital Pediatrics Ward. Rec allowed the children to greet and pet him, bringing smiles each of the children.
K9 Rec is the 2nd WCPD police dog purchased and trained exclusively through community-donated funding.

Officer Jesse Miller and K9 "Rocky"
Officer Miller has the third K9 assigned to the West Covina Police Department. This team is now known as 6-King-3.
Rocky is a 3 year old Belgian Malinois and was also selected by the WCPD because of his intelligence, high drive and aptitude. Officer Miller and Rocky completed the training in February, 2015 and immediately went to work. Rocky had been credited with his first felony apprehension within his first two weeks of service under his collar.
Officer Miller and Rocky's addition to the K9 team make it possible to have the services of a K9 available to almost every police shift.
Welcome Rocky!

Officer Richard Forman and K9 "Ronin"
Officer Forman has the newest K9 assigned to the West Covina Police Department. This team is now known as 6-King-4.
